Melbourne Museum is a natural and cultural history museum located in the Carlton Gardens in Melbourne. The museum was opened in 2000 as a project of the Government of Victoria, on behalf of Museums Victoria who administrates the venue.
Melbourne museum highlights include a complete skeleton of a blue whale, the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Centre, a living rainforest, the racehorse Phar Lap and an IMAX theatre on site. The Melbourne museum shop, located in the main foyer, has a strong emphasis on local and Australian products that reflect the museum's themes.
The Melbourne museum is quite large and comprehensive. We spent a half day at the Melbourne museum and were really delighted with what we saw. The displays are very interactive for children and adults alike and very educational in a fun way. The Melbourne museum is so well designed with lots of areas of interest. There were interactive displays as well as static.
There is a big display with lots of dinosaur skeletons in the main museum which is delightful for children and adults alike.
We loved the animal room the best. Awesome looking at all the different animals on displays.
There is a great mix of things to see and learn about here. From dinosaurs to Melbourne history, and the building itself is an architectural masterpiece.
