Eureka Skydeck 88, Melbourne

If you are looking for things to do in Melbourne, visiting the Eureka Skydeck 88 building is a must do. Located at the heart of the city and can be seen from far although its location is near to Yarra River.

It is a residential apartment building with the architect design from Fender Kataslidis for Eureka Tower Pte Ltd. It started its construction in August 2002 and completed in October 2006 with the heights of 297 meters and 91 floors. It has 13 lifts operative very fast and takes 35 second to get to the Skydeck for observation from ground.

The building shows a gold crown representing gold rush and red stripe representing blood split during the revolt. The name of "Eureka" was selected as it is an ancient Greek term meaning "I found it", that was used in the Victorian Gold Fields whenever gold was found.

The entrance to the Eureka Skydeck tower featured gold oversize bees at the entrance. They are meant to represent a hive and buzzing community because the Eureka tower is residential.

The Eureka tower give you a great view all over Melbourne and suburbs with mountains and sea in background. The glass then clears and you get to look straight down to the street below.
There are many viewfinders located around the observation deck which allow you look at Melbourne's more famous sights.
On the top of the deck one can get the edge experience too. The edge experience is a glass cube of 4.5 in thickness and hold up to 10 tones. It extends three meters from the  building for better viewing and undesirable experience. You can go outside without going into the glass box, but that was as far as we would go. Admittedly, we was a bit too scared to go into the box, but we was still pretty satisfied with the view from inside.
Australia's highest Post Office and you can mail your postcard from there. Besides, wifi is available free.

Its the best choice to view Melbourne city skyline. The best time to visit is around sunset. Ascend the tower before sunset where you can get a view of Melbourne in daylight, then wait until the sun completely sets down for the night view.
