South Melbourne Market

South Melbourne Market is the oldest continuing market operating in Melbourne, commenced operation in 1867 on land made available under a Crown Grant to the  former City of South Melbourne. The original market covered the area bounded by Coventry, Cecil and York Streets and St Kilda railway line in South Melbourne.

A large Melbourne indoor market, it is one of Melbourne's most popular with over 133 businesses operating in the market and featuring a huge variety of fresh food, clothing, gifts and services.

This is a must-visit market if you're in Melbourne. Unfortunately, it isn't open all days of the week. If you have the time or want to do your own cooking, this is the market to visit. Near to South Bank and the market is not too big and the selection of foods available is amazing.

The market offered a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, cakes and deli foods. There was also a comprehensive range of stalls for clothes, shoes, stationery, crafts, gifts and etc.
