Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne

The Queen Victoria Market is the heart and soul of Melbourne and at around seven hectares is the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere. Shoppers can find everything from fruit and vegetables to local and imported gourmet foods, fashion and general merchandise. Wander through the bustling meat, fish and dairy halls, where shoppers can pick up artisan cheeses, dressed meats and takeaway food, or discover the seemingly array of seasonal fruit and vegetables showcasing the best of Australian produce. 

 

Queen Victoria market is a must visited place if you a tourist with limited budget. Here you can find a lot of cheap souvenirs. From T-Shirt to fridge magnet. However, most of the cheap ones are made in China. but you can also find aboriginal and authentic Australia souvenirs. 

 

A wide range of stalls over a large area, but have a good around as there are many stalls selling the same items but the prices different. Don't buy from the tourist stores in the city. They have the stuff here but a whole lot cheaper.

  

 

 

Great selection of fresh fruit and vegetable available. Besides, the market have one section was full of organics. 

 

 

 

 

The market will get more crowded as the afternoon came, so come early. There are lots of food stalls serving cuisines from all over the world. We had trouble deciding what to eat with the limited stomach space. 

If you love doughnuts, don't miss out the American Doughnuts in the white van in the center of the market. 

We had a tray of freshly oysters from the seafood section and they were probably the best we've had. It cost average $9.90 for a tray of oysters (6 oysters).

  

The bratwurst sausage with sauerkraut is a must to try and it's yummy. 

 

The markets have a wonderful selections and quality fresh meats, deli foods, fish, fresh oyster, and vegetables. Everything here is amazing and we don't feel tired or get bored here.

Our favorite is the delicatessen section with its cheeses, meats, bakery and snacks. Overall, the Queen Victoria market is a must see when visiting Melbourne. We spent average 4 hours here to bask in the experience. Grab some lunch and a couple cheap souvenirs but mainly walk around and experience the lively atmosphere.
