Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne

Dedicated in 1934 to commemorate First War veterans, the Shrine of Remembrance includes memorials to other conflicts, including the Second World War. 

The Shrine is a Melbourne icon and an especially poignant location to commemorate Anzac Day, when a dawn service and wreath laying ceremony are held. 

The Shrine of Remembrance is located right next to the beautiful Botanic Gardens and you can catch a tram (Stop 19) from the city next to the Shrine. The building itself is stunning and beautiful views of Shrine from the bottom. The entry is free and the museum section is a great place to acknowledge and see Australian War history.  

 

If you want to know more a little of the Australia War history, then this is the place you must visit. Depending on the amount of time you to spare, there is quite a bit to see. When open, a balcony on the upper level offers a great view of the city skyline and a crypt in the basement has plenty information about the wars. 

Make sure you wear walking shoes as it can get pretty tiring with the walking around and up and down the stairs.

Accessibility 

The Visitor Centre and the Education Centre are step-free. Wheelchairs are available for the duration of your visit (subject to availability). There are reserved wheelchairs spaces in the Shrine Auditorium for those attending public. 

The Galleries, Crypt and Sanctuary are accessible by lift. The lift does not extent to yhe Balcony. 

T Loop (telecoil) systems support the introductory film in the Visitor Centre and Galleries exhibits.
